Grottaglie, the Town of Pottery

Grottaglie, the town of ceramic pottery, is situated atop a small hill a few kilometres from the city of Taranto. Since prehistoric times, the ravines of the surrounding areashave provided humans with cave dwellings. The walk starts from the ‘potterydistrict’where a great many handicrafts shops are located, and then on to the visit of the Episcopio Castle, which is the symbol of the feudal and religious power of the Tarantine bishops. Next, the Ceramic ArtMuseum, which hosts 400 artefacts dating from the 8th century B.C. until the present. The tour ends with the visit of 14thcentury Main Church.
