Altamura – The Apulian Lioness
The ancient megalithic walls give the name to the city, famous for the discovery of the ‘Man of Altamura’, for the Cathedral built by Frederick II of Swabia and for the traditional local (DOP -denominazione di origine protetta) bread. The historical centre is a maze of narrow streets that lead to the “claustri”, the distinctive small courtyards.
