Known as the ‘Baroque Capital’ and famous for its 17thcentury churches,Lecce boasts incredibly imposing16thcentury buildings, such as Charles V Castle, the fortification walls and the ancient Piazza dei Mercanti, a commercial heart linked to the Venetian presence (as evidenced by the smallRenaissance Church of San Marco and the ancient building named Sedile) which today is known as Sant’Oronzo Square.
