Taranto – “the City of the Two Seas”
Taranto is the only Greek colony founded by the Spartans in Puglia in the year 706. The old city lies on a small island connected to the mainland by two bridges. The geographical position of Taranto, known as “the city of the two seas”, has made it one of the greatest cities in past ages. Traces of the city history and its importance can be found in the extensive collection inside the National Archaeological Museum (M.Ar.TA)
